Beautiful handmade Mecate' Reins, Split Reins and Rope Halters by John Sanford. The reins are made of high quality climbing rope, and can be made to order. We have new types of rope we are using for the halter and lead ropes. We believe they have superior durability and still offer a good deal to the horse. The halter rope is a kernmantle which has more abrasion resistance and is a little stiffer. The lead is a tree braid arborist rope which has a great feel with great abrasion resistance. They are currently only available in black and white. The older version of the rope halters are made of a soft nylon double braid rope. They are available in a wide range of colors, and color combinations. All halters can also be made to fit any horse or mule. Specify size when ordering.
They can even be made to fit bovines. (measurements needed)

Hackamore/Bosal Shaping Blocks
Size and shape based on an average horse's muzzle. These blocks can be used to shape your bosal prior to use to assure proper fit, and when your hackamore is not in use it helps it to retain it's shape. Made of mahagony, the block has a piece of 54" latigo with a cut nail to dally the leather around after making your wraps.

Horseman's Flag
I like using the flag for gentling horses, and helping horses understand yielding. These flags can be used on the ground or from the saddle. With the riding horse I use it in place of a spur, crop or quirt. Not that any of these items are bad or wrong, I just find I can get more things done with the flag at the same time. It's also handy for flagging and working colts from your saddle horse. Introducing the horse to the flag I cover in my ground work book. Just try to stay to the edge of trouble.
The stick is made from stainless steel. It has certain amount of spring to it. It's about 3ft long with a hardwood handle.
The fabric is ripstop nylon. Each flag is attached to a loop at the end of the stick. They can be removed for washing or replacing. (Eventually the fabric may wear out.)
I have several different colors available.

"Beyond Green Broke...Educating the Snaffle Bit Horse"
This book explains many excercises to do with your horse while riding to further his and your education. Many of these John's has taken from the clinics he has ridden in with Ray Hunt and Buck Brannaman.
Here it is!
Beyond Green Broke
By John Sanford
This is the second book in a series by John on educating the horse, as well as the human. It is the same 3X5 format as the first. There are diagrams and pictures to help with operating the horse more accurately. This book is great for advancing your young horse or polishing an older horse. The exercises in this book are taken directly from John's years of riding in clinics with master horsemen Ray Hunt and Buck Brannaman. They are some of the same ones you'll be doing when you ride with these fine horsemen. A must for the student of horsemanship.

In an effort to continue to improve the tools for educating the horse, we have a new design for our flag/training stick. Our new design, which is now available, is a stainless steel rod with an epoxy coated hardwood handle. This is as good as it gets.
A tool that should last as long as your saddle.
Price will reflect the superior craftsmanship $65

UPDATE - 12 March '07
The new flags are ready. The fabric part is still ripstop nylon. The rod is stainless steel, and the handle is an epoxy coated hardwood. I felt the coating would add durability and improve the feel.
Thank you for your patience.
